About Us

The Girls Coalition of Minnesota is a statewide coalition dedicated to identifying and addressing the training, educational, and technical assistance needs of professionals who care specifically about girls and girls’ issues in Minnesota.

HISTORY:

In 1991, a small group In 1991, a small group of dedicated professionals serving girls in correctional programs, and shared a passion for girls‘ issues, planned the first Minnesota Conference on Adolescent Females to address the lack of parity in services for teen girls. The overwhelming response to that initial event grew into an annual statewide conference, and continues to evolve today. The Girls Coalition of Minnesota (GCM) was established in 2004 from its beginnings with the planning committee for the annual Minnesota Conference on Adolescent Females (MCAF). Today the Girls Coalition of Minnesota works to advance its mission of empowering adults to create a just and equitable future for girls.

The Girls Coalition of Minnesota, by providing training, technical assistance, and advocacy, seeks to build the leadership capacity of professionals, create opportunities for increased collaboration among organizations and individuals, and to highlight emerging issues and research of importance to young women across Minnesota.

MISSION:

The Girls Coalition empowers adults to create a just and equitable future for girls.

GOALS:

  1. Increase accessibility and availability of resources for professionals and organizations that serve girls and young women.
  2. Create and strengthen statewide connections and ongoing collaboration among adults and organizations who work with girls and young women.
  3. Be a leading advocate for social justice in partnership with girls and young women.
